Katie Knipp is simply the most dynamic presence currently hitting the stage in Northern California. She takes to the stage as if she owns it. Her mane of long brown hair swinging in a breeze of her own making, she straps on her ruby red Fender Strat and strikes up the first notes of “Take Her Down,” a song she wrote after seeing Charlize Theron’s electrifying performance in “Monster.” The band roars in behind her, Nate Hoehner’s bass drilling notes with rapid-fire precision, Andrew Griffin’s groove is like a rocket that lifts the crowd into outer space. Then Katie sits down at the piano and “Bluebird Street” wafts into to the room. Her songs are eclectic, mesmerizing, witty, tragic or raucous by turns. Her voice, entrancing, soothing, cajoling, wailing, ranges from the guttural to the ethereal. Katie sings the praises of her fellow musicians as well, saying, “My band is amazing and they are a huge reason why we are where we are today.”

Comparisons to Tori Amos come to mind, because Katie can roll the keys like she does, and her hard-hitting songs may put you in mind of Ani diFranco or Liz Phair. But Katie is really her own person, writing, singing and playing with the passion and fire that her fans turn out for, gig after gig.

“Katie Knipp is another chick with a guitar strapped to her wailing into a microphone, except she is really, really good. Quite a range on her pipes.”Gene Mahoney, San Francisco Herald.

“Knipp is on a warpath toward making her career a viable one in the music world, and she has blazed the path herself, taking solo gigs, duos and playing in several band formats, all the while, writing songs to make you laugh, cry and dance along with her. “ Elizabeth Zipper, Xpress Magazine

“…if you’ve never seen Katie Knipp perform, you’re in for a real treat.  One of my favorite bands.”Chris Lommori, Lommori Productions.

Knipp is a professional singer.  She graduated from Cal State Hayward with a bachelor’s degree in vocal music.  She has been singing since before she could talk and also plays guitar and piano live and on her albums.  Her musical influences include Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley, Ani diFranco, Jim Morrison and Bonnie Raitt, but Katie’s vocal style is distinctly her own, powerful and passionate.  Others have sung Katie Knipp’s praises as well, including the North Bay Bohemian who named the Katie Knipp Band Best Band in Marin County 2005.  More accolades from others include the following:

“…one of the most dynamic and exciting live performers with great hooks and a tight band.” Jeff Irving, Talent Buyer, 19 Broadway Nightclub.

“…Keep a lookout for her. Katie Knipp. She's got a voice that'll knock your head off. With love.” Going Out.

Her fans swoon at the mention of her name, critics love her, radio stations are featuring her and clubs like 19 Broadway, Last Day Saloon, Bourbon Street, Zebulon’s, Café Amsterdam and Smiley’s bid for her attentions. She is naturally ebullient, turning incandescent on stage, urging her audience on to greater heights. Katie Knipp is a woman who loves to make music and it shows.  Seeing Katie Knipp play live is a riveting experience – one you’ll never forget.
